Scouts across America have taken part in nation wide efforts to help those in need since the early 1900’s. In 1912 they promoted a “Safe and Sane Fourth of July.” In 1918 they sold more than $200 million of Liberty War bonds and stamps, and collected nut hulls and peach pits for gas masks. Scouts collected rubber and scrap metal during World War II, led a get out the vote effort in the 1950’s, promoted the 1980 census, conducted a Donor Awareness Campaign in 1986 and started Scouting for Food in 1988. Scouting for Food is still going strong. In 2009 Scouts from Great Rivers Council collected more than 100,000 pounds of food from generous donors, which fed hungry people across central Missouri in March, April and May. We’ll do it again on March 6, 2010. Join us.
Sponsors providing support for Scouting for Food include: Media Sponsors: J. W. Broadcasting (ABC 17, My ZOU 32) and Zimmer Radio (The Eagle, Clear 99 plus seven other radio stations). Retail Sponsors: C & R Markets, Gerbes
Thank You everyone for your efforts in Scouting for Food!
